Raised in Atlanta, Brian’s passion for music started at an early age. His parents exposed him to the greats of Rock, R&B, Funk, Soul, and Pop. CCR, James Brown, The Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, and Steppenwolf are just a few that played in his home growing up. As his love for music grew, he learned to not only play, but to read, write and arrange music as well. At age 15, Brian got his first drum set and started practicing on his own. His ferociousness and energy on the drums quickly earned him a spot in his high school’s drum line, where under the instruction of Paula Williams, Brian quickly developed the technique and chops that would be the foundation for the rest of his career. By his senior year of high school he earned the position of center snare and Drum Line Captain.
After studying Music Education in college, Brian joined IPS (In Perfect Silence), a pop-punk band reminiscent of Blink 182. After two albums and several southeast tours, IPS parted ways and Brian joined the rock band Helios. Helios released an EP and had short-lived success after which, he joined Good Night City where he quickly became recognized as one of the hard-hitting, powerhouse drummers in the Atlanta music scene. Brian joined Senona in early 2006, and quickly elevated Senona’s melodic pop-rock sound into a driving powerhouse of rock.
Upon parting ways with Senona, Brian turned his attention to molding and teaching the drummers of tomorrow. During his time at Music Authority, he has become one of the foremost instructors of drums and percussion. Teaching private lessons, drum ensemble, Rock Camp, and leading his department are just a few of the many places Brian lends his invaluable musical insight and percussion expertise.
Playing drums on and off the stage is the one thing that makes me feel alive. To me, it’s absolutely electric!
He is a true performer that refuses to blend in with the background. He demands your attention and gets it from the first snare drum crack to the last chest pounding bass drum thump.
Brian credits such artists as Carter Beauford, Chad Sexton, Travis Barker, Tommy Lee, Ricky Rocket, Dave Grohl, Alex Van Halen, Keith Moon, Steve Gadd, and John Bonham in his development as an artist. When he’s not bringing the thunder from behind the drum kit, Brian enjoys kung fu movies, spicy food, muscle cars, and spending time with his wife and daughter, Penelope Laine.
