Music Authority instructor Kylan McNichols - Guitar, Extended Range Guitar:
Why do you like teaching? I love watching students accomplish things that seemed out of reach for them a few weeks or months prior, like when they realize they can play that riff that seemed impossible or conquer the fear of performing for the first time. It's also crazy how much there is to learn from students!
What makes you excited about playing music? The freedom that comes with it. Music can be a casual hobby, it can be a vehicle for self-expression, a means to connect with others, or a form of self-discipline like martial arts. Whatever you want from music, it can be that for you. It's up to each musician to decide what music means to them and there are no wrong answers.
If you could pick only one recording? John Coltrane - A Love Supreme.
Where is your hometown? Fairborn, Ohio
Anything else you would like to add? Don't be afraid to be who you are as a musician and don't compare yourself to anyone. Music is always more interesting when we decide for ourselves where we're headed. Embrace the music that gets you excited, keep searching for new inspiration, and never get too comfortable to improve!
