How to make a practice time more effective.

Music Authority Family Newsletter - January 27, 2026

The Age Principle: A Smarter Way to Practice

When it comes to learning an instrument, how often your student practices matters more than how long they practice in one sitting. That’s where the Age Principle comes in.

The idea is simple: students should practice their age in minutes, twice a day.
For example, an 8-year-old practices 8 minutes in the morning and 8 minutes in the evening. A 12-year-old practices 12 minutes, twice daily.

Why does this work so well?

Short, frequent practice sessions help build strong habits, muscle memory, and confidence without overwhelming the student. Touching the instrument regularly keeps skills fresh and makes progress feel natural instead of stressful. Long practice sessions, especially for younger students, often lead to fatigue, frustration, and burnout—none of which inspire a love for music.

Two short sessions also fit more easily into busy schedules and encourage consistency. Think of it like brushing your teeth: a little every day works better than one long session once in a while.

Of course, as students grow and become more advanced, their practice time will naturally increase. But the foundation remains the same--consistency beats marathon sessions every time.

If your student is struggling to stay motivated or make steady progress, try the Age Principle this week. You may be surprised how much improvement can come from just a few focused minutes a day—twice a day.

Music Authority Family Newsletter - December 30, 2025

Looking Back on 2025 --
Thank You for Being Part of Our Family

As we approach the end of 2025, we find ourselves thinking back on the year behind us—on the music played, the milestones reached, and the faces we’ve seen walk through our doors week after week. It has been a year filled with growth, hard work, countless rehearsals, and so many moments that reminded us why we do what we do.

We watched shy beginners blossom into confident performers. We cheered for students stepping onto a stage for the first time, and we celebrated those who reached new heights in their musical journeys. We tuned guitars, mended nerves before concerts, laughed in hallways, and shared high-fives after lessons. Through every note, every challenge, and every victory, you were there.

Music Authority isn’t just a place to take lessons or pick up new gear—it’s a community. A family. And that family exists because of you. Thank you for trusting us with your music, for bringing your energy and enthusiasm, and for supporting local music education. You’ve helped us continue building a space where creativity thrives, where students feel safe to grow, and where music connects us all.

As we close out 2025 and look toward the new year, we are excited for what’s to come—new programs, new stages, and new opportunities to learn and create together. But for this moment, we simply want to pause and say:

Thank you for being part of the Music Authority family.
Thank you for another year of music and memories.
Thank you for believing in what we do.

Here’s to 2026—may it be filled with inspiration, growth, and a whole lot of great music.
