Music Authority Family Newsletter - August 26, 2025

What is a Recital Credit? (And Why Does it Matter?)

Many of our Music Authority students are getting close to finishing their current level, and one question we’ve been hearing a lot is: “What exactly is a recital credit?”

A recital credit is earned any time your student performs on their instrument. This could be at a Music Authority Open Mic Night, a school talent show, Rock Camp, or one of our Music Authority recitals.

Why are recital credits important?
The earlier students gain experience performing on stage, the more confident they’ll be as they grow. Young children naturally don’t fear embarrassment, but as they get older, that fear can develop. Getting comfortable on stage early helps prevent stage fright later in life.

What else is required to complete a level?

  • Book requirements: Each instrument has a different set of skills and materials to master.

  • A jury: A short assessment with one of our instructors (we promise it’s much less intimidating than it sounds!).

  • Advanced levels: Students will also begin exploring music history, learning about other instruments, and performing in larger ensembles.

If you’d like to know where your student currently is in their level—or if you have questions about recital credits—please stop by or call the front desk. We’re always happy to help!

Sign Up for a Recital

Traditional recitals are an important part of music education. They build confidence, help students get comfortable in front of a group, and allow students to showcase what they've learned. Music Authority offers monthly recitals. You can sign up at the front desk.
Coming September 2!

Many of you know that Ms. Melissa writes under the pen name Anne Schlea. She has written numerous urban fantasy novels. On September 2, the final book in her young adult trilogy, Orphan of the Fallen, will be released on Amazon. You can pick up copies of books 1 and 2 at Music Authority or you can get them from Amazon. Be sure to check out Soldier of the Fallen on September 2.

The Music Authority Roadies

The Roadies are a group of parents and adult students at Music Authority.  They meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm in The Backroom at Music Authority.  You can think of the Roadies as  Music Authority's PTO.  They sponsor special events, service projects, and work hard to make sure our teachers feel appreciated.  We welcome any Music Authority parent to come to our next meeting!

Our next Roadies meeting will be on September 9 at 6pm in The Backroom.  We'd love for you to join us!
Sometimes you have to improvise. When Lucas took an injury the week of Rock Camp, playing guitar became impossible. But he stuck with it and still found a way to support his band and his bandmates.
We Rent School Band Instruments

If your middle schooler is going into school band this year, look no farter for your school band instrument! Music Authority rents instructor approved instruments right here where you take lessons!
