Music Authority Family Newsletter - July 28, 2026 Proper Care and Feeding of Your Guitar Your guitar is an investment, and just like any instrument, it performs its best when it's properly maintained. Regular care not only keeps your guitar looking great but also helps it sound better, stay in tune, and remain comfortable to play. One of the easiest ways to care for your guitar is by changing the strings regularly. Old strings lose their tone, become harder to keep in tune, and can even make playing more difficult. If you play every day, consider changing your strings every 4–8 weeks. Casual players should still replace them every few months to keep their instrument sounding fresh. Another important part of guitar maintenance is having a professional setup. Seasonal weather changes, humidity, and normal wear can affect your guitar's neck, action, and intonation. A proper setup by a qualified technician ensures your guitar plays comfortably, stays in tune across the fretboard, and performs the way it was designed to. The Music Authority Roadies The Roadies are a group of parents and adult students at Music Authority.  They meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm in The Backroom at Music Authority.  You can think of the Roadies as  Music Authority's PTO.  They sponsor special events, service projects, and work hard to make sure our teachers feel appreciated.  We welcome any Music Authority parent to come to our next meeting! Our next Roadies meeting will be on August 11 at 6pm in The Backroom.  We'd love for you to join us! Learning how to properly string your guitar at summer camp. When is it Time to Restring Your Guitar? Guitar strings need to be replaced regularly. This is because they oxidize over time, which makes them play out of tune and sometimes break. On average, a guitar should see new strings every 6-8 weeks - when the strings no longer look shiny. If they are dull, then the most likely need to be replaced.
