Music Authority Family Newsletter - March 31, 2026

Why Summer is an Important Time to Stay in Music Lessons

When summer arrives, schedules loosen, vacations begin, and routines shift. It’s tempting to hit pause on music lessons—but taking a break can actually set students back more than many realize.

Music is a skill built on consistency. Just a few weeks away from an instrument can lead to lost progress in technique, finger strength, and overall confidence. Students often spend the first several lessons in the fall simply trying to regain what they had already achieved.

But summer doesn’t have to be a setback—it can be a breakthrough.

With fewer school demands, students have more mental space to be creative, explore new styles, and actually enjoy playing without pressure. It’s often during the summer months that students:

  • Try new genres they don’t normally explore
  • Write their first songs
  • Build confidence through relaxed, low-pressure learning
  • Make some of their biggest leaps in ability

Consistency also reinforces one of the most valuable life skills music teaches: discipline. Showing up each week—even when routines change—helps students develop habits that carry far beyond music.

At the end of the day, music lessons aren’t just about staying busy—they’re about continuing a journey. And momentum matters.

This summer, instead of pressing pause, keep the music going. You might be surprised how far your student can go.

Stay Engaged this Summer

Don't take the summer off! Do you know students who take a break over the summer lose ground on their lessons? Muscle memory starts to fade and progress regresses over long breaks. Instead, make the most of your summer and sign up for one of our summer camps - your student will keep learning and will have a fun time while doing it!
Rock Camp, Jr - Ages 5-10

It's time to grab your guitars, drum sticks, and microphones for Rock Camp, Jr.! You don't have to be a student at Music Authority to join in the fun, but you do need to be ready to learn some music, maybe step out of your comfort zone, and have a good time.

You do not need to know an instrument for Rock Camp, Jr., but if you do, we'll make sure you're having a fun challenge while you're at camp.

The Music Authority Roadies

The Roadies are a group of parents and adult students at Music Authority.  They meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm in The Backroom at Music Authority.  You can think of the Roadies as  Music Authority's PTO.  They sponsor special events, service projects, and work hard to make sure our teachers feel appreciated.  We welcome any Music Authority parent to come to our next meeting!

Our next Roadies meeting will be on April 14 at 6pm in The Backroom.  We'd love for you to join us!
Congratulations to Music Authority's Eclipse for winning the Youth Division of Johns Creek's Battle of the Bands! They will be opening up for the show in the Johns Creek Amphitheater on May 8.
