Local Teen Bands Take the Big Stage

Cumming, Georgia, September 26, 2016 – Local teen bands will be taking to the stage as part of Student Night at the Cumming Fair.

Student Night, October 10, 2016, allows free admission to students age 18 and under.  That night, two local bands will take the same stage as Atlanta Rhythm Section (Friday), Lonestar (Tuesday), and Charlie Daniels Band (Thursday).  These two bands are part of Music Authority’s Showcase Band program – teen bands that are given opportunities to explore the music industry through playing music, networking, college visit, and experience.

“Playing the Cumming Fair is an amazing opportunity to present my skills as a young musician to a huge audience at such a phenomenal venue! After practicing and rehearsing for so long with my bandmates, we get to show what we have accomplished together as a band!  We are so excited to share the stage with our sister band, Rise, this year,” says Allison Mehler, Eclipse bass player and Junior at West Forsyth High School.
Music Authority’s Eclipse had the opportunity to play as part of Student Night last year.  The band will take the stage at 6:30 to entertain fair-goers with Contemporary music from bands like Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, and Mumford and Sons.

Sashu Machani, Eclipse’s lead singer is an eighth grader at Lakeside Middle School.  “I honestly feel a little nervous. I’ve played in front of crowds before, but on this big of a stage? In front of this many people? It's scary and exciting. I think preforming at the Fair is so cool because in years before I would be at the fair and hear music in the background, and now I'm actually going to be the music. It's definitely something I'm going to remember forever.”

For Music Authority’s Rise, this is their first appearance.  Rise, a classic rock band, rocks out to tunes from bands like Def Leppard, Ozzy, and Poison.  They’ll go on after at 8pm, following Eclipse’s set.

“Playing the Cumming Fair is going to be exhilarating! This is likely to be my largest audience so far and that is an exciting prospect for me as a young musician. I'm PUMPED!”  Beck Van Rooyen, eighth grader at Piney Grove Middle School, took over lead vocals for Rise during the summer.

Neither band is a stranger to playing gigs in adult venues.  Over the past three years they’ve played establishments like 37 Main, Roswell Tap, and the Moonshine Festival.  Musicians make a one year commitment to the band that culminates in a New Year’s Eve show for teens.  Positions in the band are assigned through an audition process.  All Showcase Band musicians are students at Music Authority in Cumming, Georgia.

These young musicians are able to experience the realities of being in a band many adults only dream about.  "This is playing in the community, getting your name out, wanting a variety of people enjoying the music that you love playing!”  Says eighth grader Savannah Hughes from Pickens County Middle School, “It's going to be a super fun, great experience."

Other Showcase Band students include Harrison Block, Rise bassist and Sophomore at South Forsyth High School; Jake Lanni, Rise guitarist and Senior at Central Forsyth High School; Brayden Sudduth, Rise drummer and Senior at South Forsyth High School; Christian Strandquist, Eclipse drummer and Junior at South Forsyth High School; Lauren Isenberg, Eclipse guitarist and Sophomore at South Forsyth High School; and Ryan Lally, Senior at Mill Springs Academy.
