American Made
Music Authority is proud to carry Souldier straps.  Formerly of Chicago, the Souldier factory recently made the move to Buchanan, Michigan.  They moved to the small, struggling, town in hopes of having a positive impact on the community by bringing back industry and jobs.

All Souldier straps are made by hand and utilize recycled seat belts.

Substitute Teachers -
Why You Should LOVE Them

I understand there are families who refuse to take a lesson from a substitute teacher.  Myself, I encourage my students to take from substitutes on the occasions I must miss a lesson.

I'm a realistic educator.  I don't know everything.  I haven't experienced every single way to teach a subject.  I accept that I might run into an issue that I've explained every way I can imagine and still, the student is struggling.  At that point, my responsibility as instructor is simple - refer the student to another instructor for a lesson or two, or ask someone to sit in on a lesson and help us out.

In college, I took an education course that taught me an important lesson: I don't know what the color of a newborn, baby shark, swimming off of the coast of South Georgia looks like.

Sounds strange, but what that means is this - we are the sum of our experiences.  Each of my teachers and students has different life experiences.  So when I can't find the right words, maybe Jesse, or Dawn, or Ashley can.  Maybe they KNOW what that baby shark looks like and has the right words to describe the color.

So the next time you have a sub, embrace it.  Realize your student is getting a valuable opportunity to see their music through a unique set of eyes.  This is an opportunity to discover a new passion for what they're doing musically.

None of us know everything there is to know about music.  And if you find the teacher who says she does, I'd ask them about that baby shark.

Fret Dressing and Set Up New Guitars

You just got a new guitar. It's fresh out of the box and you're ready to play - so what needs to happen to make that guitar play well?  Check out this video from AcousticLife.tv for some pointers.

Music Authority sets up and checks out each guitar that walks out of our store.  This is a quick glimpse of what we're looking for!

Music Authority is happy to welcome drum instructor Dave Stark to our staff!  Contact the front desk at 770-886-9066 to reserve your spot.
Sign Up for Lessons with Rebecca Zeledon, piano instructor!

Why do you like teaching? It's very rewarding to witness someone master something that was originally a challenge to play.

What makes you excited about playing music?  Playing music takes your mind off of anything that stresses you out; it's its own form of therapy.

What’s your favorite food?  Anything with non-Swiss cheese.

Where is your hometown?  I grew up in a couple of different towns. I was born in Atlanta.

Anything else you would like to add?  "Music is the social act of communication among people, a gesture of friendship, the strongest there is." Malcolm Arnold

This is a really cool concept for you. It's a good thing that I joined Music Authority before. It has been a very fun and pleasurable journey with you guys. Not only am I able to meet new acquaintances, but I also learn music from them. I always find our meetings very fun and enjoyable. I only wish the best of luck for this club and hope that it gets bigger through time.
