Music Authority Family Newsletter - September 24, 2019

Social Media Madness; Yamaha Revstar; Sandy Springs Heritage Festival; and Acoustic Nights

Social Media Madness
Many parents don't want their young students on social media.  Completely understandable.

But as students begin to build musical careers, social media becomes important.  No matter what artistic field you're in, you need to connect to your audience.

All of Music Authority's Rock Ensembles have Instagram accounts - run by their members.  Under the safety of Lauren Isenberg's leadership, the bands post, promote, and engage with other musicians.

Learning the social media game isn't easy.  My author's persona has her own Instagram (@anne.schlea), Facebook (Anne Schlea), and webpage.  I've had to build her presence one fan at a time.  It's hard work and takes time.

We encourage students in our band programs to utilize social media to invite friends and family to gigs; to connect to other bands; and to build a fan base.  We closely monitor the interactions and make sure safe skills are being developed.

Our goal is to give young musicians a foundation for their future careers as they grow.  We also believe that if mistakes are made under the umbrella of Music Authority, that they are safer learning experiences.  Students who post have guidelines and set schedules to make sure they're posting regularly.  We follow up, talk about what's working and what's not, and guide their learning.

We understand that many parents do not want their children on social media.  That's commendable and we support you.  We'll never ask students to go against the rules their parents have set for social media.

What we WILL do is give students a safe place to start learning about professionalism in social media.

If you're interested in learning more, Music Authority will be hosting a Social Media for Parents class on Saturday, October 19 at 11am.  For more information, see the front desk.
